not use free web space
You want the best for your business…that's why you should
not trust your business site with a free hosting company.
Those "free" web space providers have to support themselves
somehow, and they do this by cluttering your web site with
advertisements. It is very important that the focus of your
business's website is… your business.
Avoid lots of animation, music, flashy devices
It is generally a bad idea to have anything on your site that
is purely for show. Unless you are a designer or in the music
industry, animation and music do nothing more than slow down
your site and distract visitors from the important content.
Plus, many of these devices only work properly on certain
browsers and on specific platforms. There is nothing worse
than introducing your site with an error message. If you have
a site that requires a plug-in to view, be kind and offer
a text-based or HTML site also.
Make prices visible
This rule does not apply to business sites which are purely
informational, but if you are using your web site to sell
products or services, the price needs to be visible. Many
people will not take the time to call for a quote. They will
just find another site that offers the same product or service
and move on.
Have a contact page
Every business site must have a contact page, and every contact
page must have three things; an email address, phone number,
and state/country. You can choose how much more detailed you
want to be, but these are the basics. The email address allows
people to contact you any time of the day. The phone number
is for people who like to talk to a human voice. And, the
state or country is just a courtesy. Shipping charges and
taxes can vary, depending on your state or country.
